The Weekly Creek News Team

Students at Cane Creek Middle School completed applications at the end of the 2014/2015 school year to be considered for the news team. The Weekly Creek crew meet daily to publish a weekly show. The "show lets students in the school know about stuff that's going on in the school"  says Paige. Paige is pictured below working on interview questions for the girls volleyball team. Jobs include: editor/producer, director, actors, errand person and interviewer. The students take turns each week and enjoy knowing about upcoming school events and sharing them with others. Discovery Ambassador Training Begins

A group of elementary, middle, and high school teachers and media coordinators have begun a three month program for Discovery Education Network (DEN). The Ambassador group will interact together in face-to-face and online communities. They will collaborate and share with other DEN Ambassadors from all over the world. SMARTBoard Advantage 15 Energizes Math at Valley Springs Middle School

Leigha Jordan, 8th grade math teacher wanted to explore the use of Plickers in her classroom for informal formative assessments. Leigha was also interested in the new SMART math tools available in the SMARTBoard Advantage 15 upgrade. Always eager to try new strategies to energize her math lessons and meet the needs of her students she consulted others. Lorraine Kasyan, her Digital Learning Facilitator, Sheila Brookshire, her Math Curriculum coach, Jennifer Neal and Vimi Mckeithan her eighth grade team members, met to explore which made for an informative and successful time for all. 
 Leigha works out a problem using the math pen feature.

NCCAT-BCS Elementary Media Coordinators

Four BCS Media Specialist applied and were selected to attend NCCAT at Ocracoke as a research and development team on Sept. 1-4th. The team worked to develop lessons and task cards for integrated projects that build on the Maker Space, STEAM and Digital Learning platforms. They are hoping to share these resources at future PLN's with fellow media specialists! Pictured left to right are Legare Hartbarger, Suzanne Hinesley, Teresa Spring, and Lila Downs. Thank you team!
